Once again I joined Tom at the Red Rock Rendezvous outside of Las Vegas to set up a slackline park and teach slackline classes. This year we were joined by Sam and Raquel who flew in like the rockstars they are.
By the time I got there Tom had already started setting things up. I joined him and soon we had 6 garden lines set up and one rodeo line. Then we grabbed our climbing gear and hoofed it across the desert to the cliffs for a quick pitch and TR climbing before we returned just as it got dark. The next day we didn't have any classes scheduled, so we played on the lines, helped prAna set up their booth, and then hung out with Sam and Raquel when they arrived. We also got in some conditioning on the lines.
For the rest of the festival we mostly just hung out on and around the lines teaching a few classes but mostly just giving pointers to people. Unfortunately there was something wrong with the scheduling computers so people couldn't sign up for classes at the rendezvous site if they signed up for classes at the crag. In any case some of the classes had nobody show up. As usual it was nice to catch up with people there, although there were a few people I didn't really get a chance to talk to.
The day after the Rendezvous Anthony and I hiked in to climb some multipitch. Our first choice was covered with climbers so we continued on and climbed "the cat in the hat". It was nice mellow climbing with an excellent view. Despite the warm sun it was chilly in the wind and I was glad I wore my windstopper fleece pants. After that we managed to squeeze in 1.5 more pitches on another climb before we had to hike out to be out of the loop area before the fining began.
The next day I met up with Anthony, Rae, and Dan and we set up a highline near the sweet pain wall. This took a while, but eventually it was all set up and Anthony walked it and the rest of us fell and hung off of it with various levels of success. I did manage to walk almost 1/2 way across on my best go but mostly I stood up and fell after a few steps (if that).
