Tom Grundy's ARWC 2025 Links Page

Oops I did it again, I signed up for a race... This time the ARWC 2025 in Penticton Canada - well, it will end there anyway, the start will be far away and will run from about about Sept 25- Oct 4th. ARWC = Adventure Racing World Championships. I will be racing with Orienteering Utah with Ian, Fletcher, and Sylvia. The purpose of this page is to put links to information and hopefully where you can follow the race once it starts (I will be mostly out of communication while racing). I will try to update this page as the race approaches and I get more information, but it is entirely possible that I won't be able to or I'll just be busy trying to get my act together. As usual this was a bit of a last minute entry to replace an injured teammate. I guess this time it isn't quite as last minute as I had nearly 3 weeks to prepare (as opposed to the last race where I had about 3 days). Not really enough time to properly train, but at least I can harden my butt up a bit for the 430+ km of biking and I shouldn't be going into the race sleep deprived. In some ways this looks like a team version of the Sierra Challenge with a lot more rules and instead of driving between trailheads and sleeping, we will bike and paddle between the trailheads.

So, here are some links, some might be of more interest to you, some might be useless, some might only be good once the race starts:

Expedition Canada logistics Page This has a link to the letters they have sent out plus the schematic (pic on this page)

Expedition Canada teams This link doesn't work as of 9-12-2025

Expedition Canada on Instagram (probably better access if you have an account)

Expedition Canada on Facebook (better access if you have an account)

Adventure Racing Discussion Group on Facebook (better access if you have an account). There will probably be other FB pages with commentary once the race starts like the team pages and dot watchers etc.

ARWS on Youtube

page with links to live tracking and updates (should be more useful once the race starts on the 24th or so)

You can also sign up for the course reveal which will happen when the racers no longer have access to the rest of the world - possibly as early as the 24th when we get transported to the start.

Darkzone podcast talking about the race (from a while ago)

Hopefully the race coverage will include the entire field (where we will most likely be) and not just the battle for the podium - which should be pretty interesting, but as much as I'd like to dream, will not include me. Remember when you are watching our dot crawl along and not move and make poor choices, we are going up against the best in the world. This is a bit like playing tennis against Alcaraz or running a marathon with Kipchoge - it is sort of amazing that a relatively normal person can be in the same field as some real top athletes.

race schematic - lots of biking, trekking, paddling, portaging, carrying boats on bikes, and a bit of ropes

schematic with the elevation gain for each stage
I added up ~ 77000 feet of gain, but won't certify my math
