Tom Grundy's Festering in Flagstaff Page

I spent a good amount of time in Flagstaff this spring. This page is for the stuff that I did that didn't end up somewhere else. First the links to stuff that did end up somewhere else, the pages on hiking and climbing... Hiking in the Grand Canyon (4, 2007),   50th Anniversary of the Mace climb (4-1 2007),   Indian Creek (3, 2007), and   Climbing around Flagstaff (early 2007).

Mountain Biking

There is a lot of good mountain biking near Flagstaff. The first ride I went on was out towards Walnut Canyon. It started snowing shortly after we left, and the mud was pretty sloggy. The we ran into snowdrifts and turned back. The mud messed up one of my tires (it piled up on the brake enough to scrape a small weak spot which turned into a major bulge). It also gooped up my bottom bracket pretty badly... As the weather improved, the stuff higher up in the mountains became accessible. A number of the rides tired me out pretty decisively, trails like lower and upper oldham, brookbank, and sunset took their toll. I don't mind going up steep stuff as long as I can mostly ride it, but it isn't much fun when I have to get off and walk. I don't much care for continuous steep downhills that are too technical or rocky to enjoy riding down. Having suspension would be nice here, but I don't have it. Unfortunately many of the trails fall into this category. Coming down the Schultz Creek trail has probably been the most fun so far, although the lower part of Sunset was pretty fun (marred by some icy mud). There is a real maze of trails though, so I need to do some more exploring when my butt and legs recover again.

What else have I been up to. Not too much worth a web page. Biking about, taking pictures of things and uploading them to sell, cooking and eating stuff, going to the library, reading books, watching movies...
