The Texas State Fair is home to many things, such as Big Tex, lots of carny games, livestock, vehicles (especially trucks), and fried foods. If you can fry it, they do, and if you can't fry it, they figure out how to fry it. If it is fried and on a stick, that is even better.
We started the heart workout with a "green goblin" a pepper stuffed with shredded chicken and guacamole, fried, and covered with nacho cheese sauce - and on a stick. It wasn't very good. What we really wanted was fried butter. Yes, butter. So we started looking...
The fried butter turned out to be a chunk of butter surrounded by a bit of biscuit dough and deep fried... not bad, but not as imaginative or good as we hoped. It did win the prize for originality.
Fried peaches and cream won for best taste, and they were pretty tasty, sort of like a peach cobbler with nothing but a peach surrounded by topping. Also not pictured, a fried funnel cake, and I'm not sure where the "fried coke" sign picture went. Julie got some fried chicken that while rather boring, was very tasty.
But the Texas State Fair isn't all about fried things, just mostly. I also got a mini climbing fix courtesy of Jeep, but I didn't get to ride the fake bull. The African acrobats were pretty impressive too. There were also lots of critters such as mini goats, mini cows, llamas with poodle cuts, pigs, and of course the zebu.
Not everyone was bloated from the fried foods, the African acrobats were pretty fit. They had a routine that involved some tumbling, some limbo and limbo humor, jumping rope, and balancing. Quite impressive, especially as they leaped into many of their balance positions. Maybe some new ideas for the Yogaslackers.

After a short break for recovery, we headed to the Euless North Main Barbecue for another heart interval workout. This place claims to have the "best ribs on earth". They are only open a few days a week, but it was Saturday, and they were open so we headed on in to check it out. The decor was pretty basic - block walls with various posters (like ms. Makita) and barbecue awards they had won on it. The menu was pretty simple. Meat, 2 sides, and white bread. I got the barbecue buffet. It was mighty tasty. I'm not sure if it was the best in the world, but it was good. I would have liked to spread out the meat I ate over about 2 weeks though. They also had really sweet sweet tea and soft serve ice cream to fill in any last bit inside. oof. I didn't need to eat for another 24 hours or so.
