Tom Grundy's USARA Nationals 2026 Links Page

Oops I did it again, I signed up for an adventure race... This time the USARA (United States Adventure Race Association) Nationals near Diamond Lake south of Bend, OR which will run from Oct 23-24 over about 32 hours. I will be racing with Tower Racing with Jameson, Kellee, and Ari. The purpose of this page is to put links to information and hopefully where you can follow the race once it starts (I will be out of communication while racing). I will try to update this page as the race approaches and I get more information, but it is entirely possible that I won't be able to or I'll just be busy trying to get my act together. I had over 2 whole months to prepare for this race, which is good as I needed that and more. After the Salmon River trip which I suppose was good training for the packraft part of the race I turned my efforts to jogging and mountain biking. Over the course of many workouts I managed to push the overton window from painful and truly tortoiselike to a more reasonable pace. At about 30 hours we won't have to worry about if/when to sleep - we won't sleep at all, and we will definitely be trying to push the pace more than we would for a multi-day expedition race. The long range weather looks decent but cold - probably 50s during the day and below freezing at night - especially up high. Jameson and I competed in the 2022 USARA Nationals with Jenica when it was local from Mammoth to Bishop. We managed to place 4th in the co-ed category in that, but were aided by my local knowledge in the gorge and closer to Bishop and Jenica's on the mountain bike and up by Mammoth plus a number of strong teams having various issues. The 2026 race is being put on by Bend Racing - so it should be a good and technical course.

So, here are some links, some might be of more interest to you, some might be useless, some might only be good once the race starts:

You can sign up for a course reveal from the Dark Zone (AR podcast) here:sign up for Dark Zone course reveal It won't be released until after the racers can't see it - probably about when we get our maps.

USARA on Instagram (probably better access if you have an account)

USARA on Facebook (better access if you have an account)

Adventure Racing Discussion Group on Facebook (better access if you have an account). There will probably be other FB pages with commentary once the race starts like the team pages and dot watchers etc.
